I have a small entomological zoo of around thirty different species at a time. I enjoy breeding invertebrates (mostly beetles, stick bugs, and millipedes) and watching them roam around their enclosures and interact with each other. I do not breed them for making art, these are pets. When they have died a natural death, then - and ONLY then - do I incorporate them into my art. Every now and then someone will give me a dead insect they've found, or I'll come across one while walking around. I will make them into art as well. I do not, however, purchase insects - living or dead - for the purposes of making art. Nor do I purchases insects for my zoo that are wild caught.
Butterflies and moths are the most popular preserved insects on the market. Unfortunately, most of them are highly endangered species. I don't have the space to properly breed them or give them a good quality of life. And I have no wish to encourage unethical collecting/breeding practices by purchasing specimens just to make art.
No. If you wish to support enrolled or TERO certified artists only, then my art is not what you are looking for.
